Dear Open Knowledge Foundation members.

I'm writing to you as I would like to offer you organization of Open Data Mining Contest hosted on our platform - TunedIT.org. I noticed that your Foundation is actively involved in Open Data initiative which means you can see a great potential in development of solutions based on available open data. Data mining is a scientific discipline which allows to discover hidden patterns in data sets which are simply impossible to be identified with use of traditional statistical methods. There are many different topics that could be explored and data that could be analyzed. For example: - traffic prediction - crime prediction - sport results prediction - analysis of geo- referenced statistical data - optimization of production process - optimization of planning processes - predicting properties of different chemical substances - prediction of energy production - optimization of maintenance work - and many others, generally any problem Our contest are a bit different than the contests so far organized by OKF as we provide one very interesting feature - live leaderboard (example: http://tunedit.org/challenges) - which allows participants to track the progress of their work and to compare efficiency of their solutions against algorithms submitted by others and since they can submit their solutions many times they really compete one against the other. Contest depending of the complexity of the task should last between 1 to 6 months.

We would like OKF to become an organizer of such an event hosted by our platform. All that OKF would have to do is to suggest interesting problem, provide data sets and fund the prizes. We would take care of the contest preparation and technical support of the event. Maybe it could be a 5th track of your next Open Data Challenge? Here you can find the list of our projects: http://tunedit.org/challenges Please let me know your thoughts. Do you have any ideas for the topic of the contest?

So what do you think? Is it better than the last one? Does it seem clear enough?

Please let me know.

Regards, Bart

Are the algorithms and software also licensed openly? Sounds interesting and fun!

Dear Mike, Yes, the awarded algorithms will be relesed as an open source... Maybe you have some ideas about contest topic?
