All over the world, many exciting Open Knowledge projects take place but its hard to track them all and learn about interesting stuff in one's own area. Thus, it would be great to have an open registry of open knowledge projects all over the world! Some place where anybody could add projects containing descriptive information like:
At best, this should be a Linked Data service. Wouldn't the OKFN be the right organization to provide such a service?--- submitted 09 May '11, 20:46 acka47 |
Strong support from me. We made an initial effort at this for bibliographic knowledge related efforts at
http://www.bibkn.org/content/work-products and
http://www.bibkn.org/content/organizations-partners
with the dream of providing Linked Data. But the reality was these lists were difficult to maintain in a usefully structured format, for a number of reasons, mainly lack of capability in data acquisition and maintenance, especially lack of human resources with incentive to keep the list up to date.
Also important to consider "services" as well as "projects" and to raise awareness of
the business models sustaining these services. http://www.doaj.org/ and solved 10 May '11, 00:41 Jim Pitman |
From Rufus Pollock via the mailing list: I think this is a great idea and I think one could easily use CKAN for this purpose. I'm even wondering whether one could use the existing ckan.net itself esp if the apps/ideas plugin were finished [1] (though that may be a bit of an abuse).
